Product description

Sadolin Extra Durable Clearcoat – Clear Coat for Ultimate Wood Protection

Working in harmony with wood, Sadolin Extra Durable Clearcoat provides exterior wooden surfaces with a long-lasting barrier against the damaging effects of rain, moisture, and UV light.

Sadolin Extra Durable Clearcoat has a unique formulation which performs like a traditional wood stain but delivers just enough pigment to ensure that outdoor wood surfaces retain their existing colour. This wood treatment adds a durable, protective coating to wooden external doors, windows, conservatories, cladding, garden buildings and furniture, and more.

Protective Wood Treatment for Your Home and Garden Unpredictable weather can cause irreparable damage to wooden surfaces. Changing temperatures -along with the effects of rain, moisture, and UV light - mean that throughout the year external wood is constantly expanding and contracting, which in time causes flaking and damage to the surface. Sadolin Extra Durable Clearcoat is a solvent-based product which has an advanced, flexible formulation that expands and contracts with the wood. Ideal for ongoing maintenance, this clear coat works to significantly prevent peeling and blistering, extending the life of exterior wood. Available in Clear Gloss, Sadolin Extra Durable Clearcoat delivers weather-resistant, waterproof protection and a high-shine finish to exterior wood including wooden doors, windows, conservatories, cladding, garden buildings and furniture.

PREPARATION:

We recommend a trial application before you start. The final appearance will depend on the original colour, condition of the wood and the number of coats applied.

NEW OR BARE WOOD: If the wood is oily or resinous, thoroughly degrease with methylated spirits. Treat non durable timber with a clear preservative (eg. Sadolin Wood Preserver). Timber that has been exposed for 4 weeks or more will require sanding to a clean sound surface.

PREVIOUSLY WOODSTAINED SURFACES:

Ensure surfaces to be coated are clean and dry. Lightly sand if necessary or scrub with a sti bristle brush to remove any loose particles. If excessive weathering has taken place, any grey denatured timber should be mechanically sanded back to a clean sound surface. Remove any grease and wipe any resinous areas and knots, using a cloth dampened with methylated spirits. If the surface is in a poor condition strip back and treat as new wood. Fill small holes with a Sadolin Woodfiller. Sand in the direction of the grain to a smooth surface using a medium grade abrasive paper. Do not use wire wool. Wash surfaces with water and a mild detergent and allow to dry. Touch in areas of bare wood with a suitable shade of Sadolin Classic or Extra to match surrounding surfaces.

PRECAUTIONS

Treatments such as sanding, burning, etc. of paint films may generate hazardous dust and/or fumes. Work in well ventilated areas. Use suitable personal protective equipment, as necessary. Avoid the inhalation of dust, wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Special precautions should be taken during the preparation of pre-1960’s paint surfaces over wood as they may contain harmful lead.

APPLICATION:

Stir well before and during application. Do not apply at temperatures below 8°C or above 25°C, in damp conditions or when rain is imminent. Apply 1-2 coats on previously coated timber. Apply 3 coats to new or bare wood. Avoid over brushing as this will result in brush marks and a low film build. Sand lightly between coats, if there is any raised grain. On very light colour woods Sadolin Clearcoat may add a golden tint to your wood.
