Sadolin Yacht Varnish - Clear
Sadolin Yacht Varnish – Traditional Clear Varnish with a High Gloss Finish for Exterior Wood Joinery
Sadolin Yacht Varnish is a traditional clear varnish for giving a durable, high gloss finish to exterior wood and timber. Specially formulated to enhance the natural beauty of wooden doors, window frames and conservatories, this solvent-based, waterproof varnish protects exterior wood from harmful UV rays, providing a long-lasting finish that resists peeling and flaking.
Protective Wood Treatment for Exterior Doors, Windows, and Conservatories
Changing temperatures - along with the effects of rain, moisture, and UV rays - mean that exterior wood and timber surfaces around the home are constantly subjected to different weather conditions, which can in time cause flaking, peeling and damage.
Suitable for application to both new wood and previously coated wooden doors, window frames and conservatories, Sadolin Yacht Varnish has an advanced weatherproof formulation that forms a high-build barrier to protect against damaging UV rays. This clear wood varnish is also ideal for use as an ongoing maintenance product, extending the life of exterior wood surfaces.
Note: Sadolin Yacht Varnish is not suitable for constant immersion in water and not recommended for use on fascias.
PREPARATION:
We recommend a trial application before you start. The final colour will depend on the original colour and condition of the wood and the number of coats applied.
NEW OR BARE WOOD: Timber exposed to the weather for 4 weeks or more should be sanded back to a clean sound surface. Wipe down bare timber with a cloth dampened with methylated spirits. Do not use white spirit. If using a non-durable timber treat with Sadolin Wood Preserver first.
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED OR VARNISHED SURFACES: Strip bare and treat as new wood.
PREVIOUSLY WOODSTAINED SURFACES: Any loose, flaking coating should be removed by use of a scraper or abrasive paper. Any grey denatured timber should be mechanically sanded back to a clean sound surface. Any mould and algal growth must be removed using a suitablefungicide/algicide. Wash surfaces with a mild detergent and rinse with clean water. Allow to fully dry. Wipe all surfaces with a cloth dampened with methylated spirits. As with all coatings, preparation is key and poor preparation will result in poor coating performance.
APPLICATION:
Always intermix packs to ensure colour consistency. Ensure surfaces to be varnished are clean and dry. Stir well before and during application. Do not apply in damp conditions, when rain is imminent, or at temperatures below 8°C or above 25°C. For best results use a good quality synthetic bristle brush. Avoid over brushing as this will result in brush marks. Sand lightly between coats if there is any raised grain. New work requires a three coat application. Maintenance may require two or three coats depending on the amount of weathering that has occurred.
