Painting Instructions

Preparation:

Remove all loose and failing paint. Scrape, chip, and wire brush to eliminate surface rust, and in severe cases, consider blast cleaning. Smooth feather edges of sound paint with abrasive paper. Remove all dust and wash the surface with a hot water and liquid detergent solution to remove oil, grease, and contaminants. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and allow to dry. Spot prime all bare metal with one coat of Sandtex Trade Rust Inhibiting Primer Undercoat within the working day. Take precautions to avoid inhaling dust, and wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding.

Application:

Always intermix packs for color consistency. Stir the paint thoroughly before use. Apply evenly and without over-spreading using a brush or roller onto the prepared surface. Apply one coat of Sandtex Trade Rust Inhibiting Primer Undercoat followed by one or two coats of Sandtex Trade Metalgloss X-Tra as needed. Some strong colors may require an additional coat to ensure complete coverage. If redecorating with the same color, Sandtex Trade Rust Inhibiting Primer Undercoat is not necessary. Do not apply if there is a risk of rain or if the air/surface temperature is likely to fall below 8°C or when the relative humidity is above 80% during application or drying.
